Social connection campaign: "One household, one tap"

The "One Household, One Tap" campaign in Benin is a government and Omilayé initiative aimed at facilitating access to drinking water in rural areas. It provides for the installation of home connections at a reduced cost, often payable in installments, with over 20,000 connections planned over four years.

Project Objective

To enable every household that wishes to have a tap on their property at a so-called "social" cost, making it affordable for low-income households.

To contribute to reducing the burden of water collection and the decrease in waterborne diseases, particularly among women and children.

Scope and Progress

The government has mandated Omilayé to install 20,000 social connections per year over four years, for a total of 80,000 connections, in rural areas. The broader objective is to reach approximately 200,000 connections by 2030, impacting more than 9 million inhabitants.
